MICROTONNER produces mainly instrumental sound somewhere between rock, industrial and electronic - heavy guitar riffs meet broken beats and atmospheric speech samples, combined with harmonic melody-pads.
MICROTONNER is a band form Austria and was founded in 1997 by Martin Baumann (Guitar) and Paul Proll (Bass). We started classical with bass, drums and guitar.
As a longterm cooperation with other musicians failed, we had to change our way of working, and started to use electronic equipment too. The consequence was a change of sound, and so we got more and more into electronic and industrial soundscapes.
Our first record „Stumme Zeugen“ was released in 1999. After some gigs we started working on our second album „The power of ingnorance“. This album was released in 2003, and is a critical confrontation with the state of the world. This album gained some airplay on several radiostations.
The third album is called „sub zero“, and was released in 2006 on the weblabel www.laridae.at. On this album we tried to create moods with the help of speech-samples, and got an apocalyptic atmosphere through the effective use of electronic instruments.
After some gigs in Austria we made a short break. 2008 we decided to get back to more organic sounds and started working on our next album „Observer“ which was released in 2009. We picked up our guitars again and started writing songs, just while playing. 2012 we met Chris Hubmann (Drums) who joined MICROTONNER immediately, and so we worked on the next release, for the first time with a real drummer.
2013 we finished „Navigation“ which is the natural progression and refining of everything we have done before. In 2014 Gerd Baumann joined MICROTONNER whith his guitar. Beside this, there are serveral cooperations and projects with other musicians.
